The difference between dry and wet separators for lithium batteries

2023-01-03
The difference between dry and wet separators for lithium batteries

1. Due to the simple process of the dry method, the investment in fixed assets is smaller than that of the wet method; however, it is difficult to control the temperature and other indicators of the dry method in the processing process, and the process of the wet method is simpler;

2. The dry-process diaphragm can be made of three-layer film, and the wet-process diaphragm can only be made of a single-layer film;

3. In addition to the different processing technology, the dry and wet diaphragms use different raw materials.

4. The raw material used in the dry process diaphragm has good fluidity and low molecular weight, so the high temperature can only reach 135 degrees.

5. It will shrink when exposed to heat (<5%), and its safety is not suitable for high-power and high-capacity batteries; wet-process separators use non-flowing, high-molecular-weight raw materials, and the thermal shutdown temperature can reach 180 degrees, which can ensure the stability of high-power batteries. safety;

6. In the production of general lithium batteries, dry-process separators have advantages, such as low cost, less pollution, and more uniform pores; wet-process separators have advantages in high-power batteries, mainly in terms of safety and small heat shrinkage.
