What is lithium ion battery energy storage system?

Lithium ion battery has the advantages of high energy density, long cycle life, low self-discharge rate, no memory effect and environmental protection, and has a broad application prospect in the field of energy storage. At present, there are different types of lithium ion battery technology, such as lithium cobalt acid, lithium manganese acid, lithium iron phosphate and lithium titanate. From the perspective of market application prospect and technology maturity, lithium iron phosphate battery is recommended as the first choice in the field of energy storage.


The development and application of lithium ion battery technology is very hot, and the market demand continues to increase. As one of its important applications, battery energy storage system comes into being, including small household energy storage, large industrial and commercial energy storage, and very large energy storage power station. Large-scale energy storage system is an important part of future new energy system and smart grid, and energy storage battery is the key of large-scale energy storage system.

Energy storage systems are equivalent to batteries, and energy storage has many applications, such as power systems for power stations, communication base stations and data rooms for backup power sources. The standby power supply technology and power battery technology of communication base station and data room belong to DC technology, which is lower than power battery technology. The content of energy storage technology is more extensive, including converter technology, power grid access technology and power grid dispatching control technology besides DC technology.

 

Currently, the energy storage industry does not have a clear definition of what electric energy storage is, but the energy storage system should have two characteristics:

1. The energy storage system can participate in power grid dispatching (or the energy in the energy storage system can be fed back to the main power grid).

 

2. Compared with power lithium battery, lithium ion battery for energy storage has lower performance requirements.

Compared with the power lithium battery, the technical characteristics of the energy storage system are high voltage (generally designed according to the requirements of 1Vdc), and multiple series and parallel connections for a single battery. Therefore, the electrical safety and battery status monitoring of energy storage system is more complex, which requires specialized personnel to study and solve.
